Biography

Born in Venice, from his early youth, Silvio Zanon attended music lessons of percussion instruments and starting from 1995 he also began to attend singing lessons with the baritone Giuseppe Scandola and with the mezzo-soprano Maria del Fante. He underwent further training under the supervision of the tenor Luciano Pavarotti.

The first great achievement took place in 2000 when he won the international competition Primo Palcoscenico and had his debut performing the role of Sharpless in Madama Butterfly.

From this moment on he has started his intense artistic activity which led him to have his debut in the main roles of the baritone repertory of Verdi and the Verismo in a lot of the most important Italian and foreign theatres. He sang Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro), Nabucco (Nabucco), Conte di Luna (Il Trovatore), Amonasro (Aida), Escamillo (Carmen), Carlo Gerard (Andrea Chenier).

In 2005 he had his debut singing Barnaba in La Gioconda by Ponchielli at the Teatro Goldoni in Livorno and in the Teatro Sociale in Rovigo. He was welcomed with such a great success that the performance was not only performed again in the same theatres Goldoni and Sociale, but also in the theatres of Ravenna, Livorno, Lucca, Pisa, Bolzano, Trento, Treviso, Padova, Bassano and Savona.

His most significant experiences over the past few years include: Germont in La Traviata in the Teatro Filarmonico of Verona, Amonasro in Aida in the Terme of Caracalla (conducted by Alain Lombard), Tonio in Pagliacci in the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genova (conducted by Bruno Bartoletti), Alfio in Cavalleria Rusticana and Tonio in Pagliacci by R. Leoncavallo (conducted by Maurizio Arena), Gianni Schicchi (conducted by Paolo Arrivabeni) and Amonasro in Aida (conducted by Maurizio Benini with the production of Franco Zefirelli) at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo and during the Gala opera concert on the occasion of the Japanese production in Tokyo (directed by Stefano Ranzani).

In 2008 Silvio Zanon had his debut at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, where he performed the role of Michele in Il Tabarro by Giacomo Puccini conducted by Riccardo Chailly with the production of Luca Ronconi. Subsequently he performed Alfio in Cavalleria Rusticana in Firenze’s Teatro Comunale. The theatre confirmed him immediatly to perform the role of Tonio in Pagliacci of Leoncavallo conducted by Patrik Fournillier under the production of Franco Zeffirelli in 2009. During the first months of 2009 he started his cooperation with the Vienna’s State Opera playing Don Carlos de Vargas in La forza del destino by Verdi conducted by Paolo Carignani.
