Biography

Sergei Skorokhodov was born in St Petersburg. From 1980–1990 he studied at the St Petersburg Glinka Choral School. In 1998 he was admitted to the St Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire. Soloist with the Mariinsky Academy of Young Singers since 1999. The same year he made his Mariinsky Theatre debut as Guido Bardi (Zemlinsky's Una tragedia fiorentina).

In 2004 and 2005 took part in Renata Scotto's Master Classes in Accademia nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Roma.

Soloist with the Mariinsky Theatre since 2007.

Together with the Mariinsky Opera Company he has toured to the Netherlands (Concertgebouw, Amsterdam), France (Opéra National, Paris), the UK (Barbican Hall and Coliseum, London), Sweden (Royal Opera, Stockholm), Finland (Mikkeli Music Festival) and Israel (Red Sea Festival, Eilat). In the 2009-2010 season Sergei Skorokhodov made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera as Ivan (The Nose).

In 2016 he sang the role of Vaudemont (Iolanta) at the Bolshoi Theatre.

Among recent engagements Ismaele (Nabucco) at the Lyric Opera Chicago, The Pretender (Boris Godunov) and Zinovy Borisovich (Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk) at the Bayerische Staatsoper, Munchen, Vaudemont (Iolanta) at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Festival, Tsarevich Guidon (The Golden Cockerel) at the Teatro Real, Madrid.
