Эрика Гримальди


Born in Asti Erika Grimaldi graduated with distinction from the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Turin in singing and piano. Her first success came at the Crescentino International Competition in Vercelli (Italy) in 1998 and the International Giacomo Lauri-Volpi Competition (Spain).

In 2005 she won 1st prize at the International Opera Singers’ Competition in Orvieto, following which she was invited to perform the role of Carolina in Cimarosa’s Il matrimonio segreto, staged by Paolo Miccichè.

In 2008 she won the Comunità Europea competition, run by the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale in Spoleto, after which she was immediately offered the role of Mimì in La Bohème at the Teatro Regio in Turin. The same season she appeared in a production of Cherubini’s Medea under Evelino Pidò at the Teatro Regio in Turin and the Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania. In 2009 she made an acclaimed debut as Adina in Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, as Pamina in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo and as Donna Anna in Don Giovanni at the Avenches Festival (Switzerland), staged by Giancarlo Del Monaco.

In 2010–2011 Grimaldi debuted as Anaï in Rossini's Moïse et Pharaon at the Rome Opera conducted by Riccardo Muti. This same season she debuted as Micaela in Carmen at Teatro Lirico di Cagliari.

In the 2012-2013 season Ms. Grimaldi appeared at the Teatro Regio in Turin in three leading roles: Mimi in La Bohème, Micaela in Carmen and as Elisetta in Il Matrimonio Segreto. She also appeared that season as Donna Anna in Don Giovanni and as Mimi in Montpellier. She was also heard season in Montpellier as the Countess in Le Nozze di Figaro and as Fiordiligi in Così Fan Tutte in Turin.

Engagements for the 2013/2014 season have included her first performances as Maria in Simon Boccanegra in Turin under the direction of Gianandrea Noseda. She was also heard at the Regio this season in her first performances of Mathilde in Guglielmo Tell under Noseda's direction and also appeared there as Liù in Turandot.
She made her U.S. debut in August 2014 in the Beethoven`s Ninth Symphony with the Mostly Mozart Festival in New York. She opened the 2014/2015 season at the Regio in Torino as Desdemona in Otello and appeared there as the Countess in Le Nozze di Figaro.

In 2015 she sang Donna Anna in Don Giovanni at Opera de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, Rossini's Stabat Mater at the Palau de les Arts in Valencia, Mimí in La Bohème at San Carlo Theater in Naples and she debuted as Donna Fiorilla at Hamburg Staatsoper in Rossini's Turco in Italia. She joined Jonas Kaufmann in a scene from Il Trovatore on the tenor's recent all-Verdi CD for SONY CLASSICAL.

In January 2016 she made an important debut as Giovanna d'Arco at Milan Teatro alla Scala, and In May 2016 debuted at San Francisco Opera as Micaela in Carmen. Then she performed again Mimí in La Bohème at Oviedo's Teatro Campoamor and sang in Verdi's Requiem both in Paris at Philharmonie and in Hong Kong where she also appeared as Maria in Simon Boccanegra for Hong Kong Arts Festival (HKAF) 2016. She performed as Armilla in A. Casella's La donna serpente in Turin, Mimí in La Bohème at Savonlinna Operafestival and Verdi's Requiem in London.

Among recent engagements Nedda in Pagliacci by Leoncavallo (Teatro Regio in Turin), Mathilde in Guglielmo Tell by Rossini (Bayerische Staatsoper), Mimí in La Bohème by Puccini (San Francisco Opera and Edinburgh International Festival).

In September 2017 she appeared at the Bolshoi Theatre as Countess Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro by Mozart.
