
Biography
Born in Irkutsk (Russia). In 1972, graduated from Irkutsk Art College (department of scenography). In 1972-1973, she was the chief designer of State Youth Theatre of Irkutsk. Then, she attended
High Producer Courses in State Institute of Theatre Art (now Russian Academy of Theatre Art) in Moscow and worked on probation with Eduard Kochergin in St. Petersburg.
From 1976, Nadezhda Gultiaeva lives in Lithuania, working for different theatres of Vilnius and Kaunas. She has designed costumes for Eimuntas Nekrosius’s productions of Uncle Vanya and
Three Sisters by Chekhov, The Nose after Gogol, Hamlet, Otello and Macbeth by Shakespeare, Love and Death in Verona after Shakespeare’s Romeo
and Juliet, The Seasons by Donelaitis, The Song of Songs, Faust by Goethe, Anna Karenina after Tolstoy.
Her opera work includes costume designs for Teatro Maggio Musicale Florentino productions of Verdi’s Macbeth (2002) and Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov (2005), Lithuanian National Opera
production of Wagner’s Die Walkure (2007).
At the Bolshoi Theatre she designed costumes for Macbeth, Desyatnikov’s The Children of Rosenthal and Rimsky’Korsakov’s The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and the Maiden
Fevronia.
In 2002, Nadezhda Gultiaeva was awarded the Theatrical Critic’s Prize of Lithuania as the best designer of the season.
