Biography

Born in Chelyabinsk. Completed his studies (trumpet class) at Chelyabinsk Music College. From 1991-1995, was a student at the Academy of Theatre Art. He also studied at the Galina Vishnevskaya Centre for Opera Singing. In 1994, he became a probationer with the Novaya Opera Company. From 1995 to 2001, he was soloist with the Helikon-Opera Company where he sang the roles of Amonasro, Macbeth, Mazeppa, Gryaznoy, Onegin and Escamillo. He toured with the Company to France, Spain, Austria, and the Lebanon. From 2001 to 2002, he toured with the Kazan Opera Company to Holland, Belgium, Denmark and Great Britain, singing the roles of Ford (Falstaff) and Figaro (Le Nozze di Figaro).
In 2002, he sang the title role in Rigoletto for the Novaya Opera Company.
In 1997, he appeared at the Chaliapin Evenings at Ufa Music Festival.
He sang the role of Count di Luna (Il Trovatore) in Los Algeles, Scarpia (Tosca) in Finland, Salieri (Mozart and Salieri) at the Teatro Maestranza (Sevilla), Mazeppa at the New Israeli Opera.

He appears a lot with the Moscow Symphony Choir, led by Valery Polyansky, with which he has participated in performances of the operas Cherevichki, Francesca da Rimini, La Gioconda; in 2004, at the Big Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire, he sang the part of Gerard (Andrea Chenier). This was the first concert performance of the opera in Russia.

In 2003, he made his Bolshoi Theatre debut, where he sung the following parts: Nick Shadow (The Rake’s Progress), title role in Falstaff, Verdi (The Children of Rosenthal), Papageno and Speaker (Die Zauberfloete), Ping (Turandot).

Sergei Moskalkov is currently the artistic director and soloist with the Russian Opera Company.
