Biography

Kirill Serebrennikov graduated from the Rostov State University in 1992. His first Moscow production was Plasticine by Vassily Sigarev at the Playwright and Director Centre (2001). For Moscow theaters he has also staged: Some Explicit Polaroids by Mark Ravenhill at the Pushkin Theatre, Terrorism and Playing the Victim by the Presnyakov brothers, The Petty Bourgeoisie by Maxim Gorky, The Golovlevs by Mikhail Saltykov-Shchedrin, The Forest by Alexander Ostrovsky, The Pillowman by Martin McDonagh, Kizhe after the story by Yury Tynyanov, Threepennies Opera by Bertolt Brecht at the Moscow Art Theatre, Sweet Bird of Youth by Tennessee Williams, The Naked Pioneer by Mikhail Kononov, Antony&Cleopatra. A Version by Shakespeare at the Sovremennik theatre, The Demon by Mikhail Lermontov at the 814 Theatrical Association, among others.

His musical productions include: Joan of Arc at the Stake (Jeanne d'Arc au bucher) by Arthur Honegger at the Moscow International House of Music (conductor Vladimir Spivakov, for the Vladimir Spivakov Invites Festival), Verdi’s Falstaff at the Mariinsky Theatre, conductor Valery Gergiev, Stravinsky’s Persephone with National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia, conductor Vladimir Spivakov, for the Bosco di Cilege Festival, Carl Orff’s Mysterion (De Temporum Fine Comoedia) at the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, conductor Teodor Currentzis, for the Territory Festival and others. He originated the idea and directed the international charity performance of Requiem by Alexei Syumak with Russian National Orchestra, conductor Teodor Currentzis, at the Moscow Art Theatre.

Since 1991 Kirill Serebrennikov directs on TV, since 1998 he is a film director.
His film work includes Rostov-Daddy, The Diary of a Murderer, Bed Stories, Playing the Victim, Yuriev Den, Short Circuit, among others.

From 2006 he is one of the Art Directors of the Territory Festival.
From 2008 he teaches Acting and Directing at the Moscow Art Theatre School.
