Biography

Claudia De Smet started her dance studies at the Institut Provincial de Danse d'Anvers (Belgium), from where she obtained a diploma in classical and contemporary dance, followed by her dance instruction diploma. Since 1991 she has worked with a number of production companies in Belgium; notably Air de C°, Compagnie Aime de Ligniere, and Charleroi Danses. In 1995, she joined the Preljocaj Ballet troupe; she participated in the works of Liqueurs de Chair, Romeo and Juliet, Paysage apres la bataille, among others. In 1997 she received a Bessie Award in New York for her interpretation of the Angel in Annonciation. In 2000, she went to dance with the Swedish Norrdans company, and she rejoined the Preljocaj Ballet in March 2002. She has become an assistant to Angelin Preljocaj in 2006.
