Юрий Самойлов

Biography

Iurii Samoilov received his master’s degree at the National Music Academy of Ukraine with honors (studying voice with Roman Mayboroda). He performed as a soloist at Opera Studio in Kiev, playing the title role in Eugen Onegin among other operas.

Since 2009 he was a guest student at the Dutch National Opera Academy and member of Opera Studio Nederland in Amsterdam, a period during which he performed Sid in Britten’s Albert Herring, Guglielmo in Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte, Plutone in Monteverdi’s Оrfeo, title role in Don Giovanni.

In 2012 he made his debut at the Dutch National Opera in The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and the Maiden Fevronia.

In 2010 he made his debut in Amsterdam Concertgebouw and in Royal Albert Hall in London.

In 2012 he sang the title role in Pelleas et Mellisande at Operadagen festival in Rotterdam, covered Biterolf in Wagner’s Tannhäuser at Tiroler Festspiele in Erl and Nardo in Mozart’s La finta giardiniera at Aix-en-Provence Festival in France.

Since 2012 Iurii was a member of Young Artist Program at Frankfurt Opera House. He did several roles on main stage there as well as roles in Children operas: Figaro in Rossini`s Il barbiere di Siviglia and Cesare in Handel’s Giulio Cesare in Egitto, Sciarrone in Puccini’s Tosca and Bello in Fanciulla del West, Giorgio in Rossini’s La gazza ladra as well as Don Giovanni in production for children.

In Summer 2013 he took part in the "Young Singers Project" at Salzburger Festspiele. Several concerts including one with Salzburg Camerata, he was a part of Verdi’s Don Carlo and Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail.

In Summer 2014 Iurii took part in Accademia Rossiniana at Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, performing Don Alvaro in Rossini's Il viaggio a Reims.

Since 2014 Iurii Samoilov is a member of ensemble at Oper Frankfurt where he debuted as Marcello in La Bohème, followed by the role of Dandini in La Cenerentola, title role in Don Giovanni, Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro, Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor among others.

In 2015 he made his debut at Theater Basel as Guglielmo in Mozart`s Cosi fan tutte under direction of Calixto Bieito.

He has worked already with many conductors including Richard Bonynge, Mark Soustrot, Marc Albrecht, Gustav Kuhn, Jonathan Cohen, Sebastian Weigle, Riccardo Frizza, Pablo Heras-Casado, Antonio Pappano, Theodor Guschlbauer, Pier Giorgio Morandi, Erki Pehk, as well as directors such as Sir Jonathan Miller, Pierre Audi, Dmitri Tcherniakov, Harry Kupfer, Jens-Daniel Herzog, Peter Stein and David Alden.

In 2016, Iurii’s highlights include Masetto in Don Giovanni in Nationale Oper, Amsterdam and the title role in Eugene Onegin in Vilnius City Opera.
