
Biography
After Mathias Vidal received his musicology degree in 1999 from the University of Nice, he studied voice at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique de Paris where he graduated in 2003. That same year, he was a prize-winner of the Centre Français de Promotion Lyrique and in 2007, he was the Adami «Classical revelation».Since his first roles in Offenbach’s Les Contes d’Hoffmann and Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea his repertoire kept growing, from Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail (Germany, Saint-Etienne and Rennes) to Beppe in Leoncavallo’s I Pagliacci, and, in the french repertoire with Sauguet’s Les Caprices de Marianne (Compiègne), Auber’s Fra Diavolo (Metz), Poulenc’s Dialogues des carmélites (Budapest). On opera stages, he sang under the baton of Alain Altinoglu, Jean-Claude Casadesus, William Christie, Patrick Davin, Hervé Niquet, Jérémie Rhorer, Pascal Rophé in stagings by Yves Beaunesne, Jean-Louis Grinda, Clément Hervieu-Léger, Pier Luigi Pizzi, François Rochaix, Jean-François Sivadier. He also regularly performs in concert with several prestigious ensembles and orchestras. For instance, he regularly works with the Palazzetto Bru Zane in Venice and the Center of Baroque Music in Versailles.
Well-known in baroque music, he sang and recorded Rameau’s Pygmalion in Houston, Dallas and New York; Purcell’s King Arthur in Montpellier and Versailles; L’Incoronazione di Poppea (Lucano) with les Arts Florissants in Madrid and Paris. In the feld of operetta, he could be heard as Piquillo in La Périchole, as Aristée /Pluton in Orphée aux Enfers or in Lehár’s The Merry Widow.
Also in repertoire: Il Conte Almaviva in Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia; Malcom in Verdi’s Macbeth; Haydn’s Il Mondo della Luna; Mozart’s Der Schauspieldirektor; Brighella in Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos; Bach’s Johannes Passion. He performed contemporary opera as well: Thierry Pécou’s L’Amour Coupable in 2010.
Recently, he performed in Cavalli’s La Didone with les Arts Florissants (Caen, Luxembourg and Paris Théâtre des Champs Elysées) ; Offenbach’s La Belle Hélène in Montpellier; L’Incoronazione di Poppea in Lille and Dijon with Le Concert d’Astrée; Ravel’s L’enfant et les sortilèges at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo.
During 2012/13 season, performed Ernesto in Donizetti’s Don Pasquale (Lisbon, Teatro Nacional de São Carlos), Aristée /Pluton in Orphée aux Enfers (Opéra de Lausanne), Purcell’s King Arthur at the Opéra Royal de Versailles.
