Biography

Ilya Houzich was born in Zhodino, Byelorussia, and studied at the Byelorussian Music College and Byelorussian State Academy of Music with the Prof. Pyotr Ridiger. In 2008-2009 he did a post-graduate course at the Conservatorio Guiseppe Verdi in Milan. While being a student, he sang the roles of Jose in Bizet’s Carmen, Basilio in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro and Alfredo in Verdi’s La Traviata. He also has in his repertory the roles of Rodolfo in Puccini’s La Boheme, Pinkerton in Puccini’s Madama Batterfly, the Duke in Verdi’s Rigoletto, Lykov in Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Tsar’s Bride, Herman in Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades and Grigory in Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov.

He has been a laureate of the Bella Voce Vocal Contest in Moscow in 2006, Iuventis Canti in Vrable, Slovenia, in 2007 and Dvorak International Vocal Competition in 2008.

He has performed the roles of Il Gran Sacerdote in Mozart’s Idomeneo with ‘Musica Viva’ Chamber Orchestra conducted by Alexander Rudin and Tibault in Gounod’s Romeo et Juliette with ‘Novaya Rossiya’ Symphony Orchestra conducted by Benjamin Pionnier, both at the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow.

In 2009-2011 he was the member of the Young Artists Program of the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia, where he made his debut as Malcolm in Verdi’s Macbeth in May 2010.
At the Bolshoi Theatre he also performed the following parts:
Lykov (Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Tsar’s Bride)
Nihilist (Shostakovich’s Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk)
Ismaele (Nabucco)
