Born in Perm to the family of dancers. In 1989, Yekaterina Shipulina entered the Perm Choreographic College. In 1994, she continued her education at the Moscow College of Choreography (today the Moscow Choreographic Academy). Having graduated in 1998, she joined the Bolshoi Theatre.
She was training under Marina Kondratieva and Tatiana Golikova.
