After a 121-year (!) absence, Vincenzo Bellini’s La Sonnambula, one of the most touching and charming of the bel canto operas, returns to the Bolshoi Theatre repertoire. Opera buffs will certainly appreciate the fact that in the lead will be an opera star with a world-wide reputation, Laura Claycomb, “a coloratura without limit”, as Russian critics have dubbed her.

FROM 28 TO 31 MARCH 2013 UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE BOLSHOI THEATRE’S CENTURY OF the RITE of SPRING — CENTURY OF NEW ART FESTIVAL the world première will take place at the Theatre of a new production of Igor Stravinsky’s ballet Le Sacre du printemps by the well-known Russian choreographer Tatiana Baganova. The new Rite of Spring will form part of a double bill with Mats Ek’s Appartement — another new work in the Ballet Company’s repertoire.
The première of Wayne McGregor’s version of The Rite of Spring is postponed. The new date for this work will be announced once Sergei Filin, the Bolshoi Theatre Ballet Company’s Artistic Director, is well enough to resume his duties.

Artem Ovcharenko is promoted from the Leading Soloist to Premier, Kristina Kretova — from the First Soloist to the Leading Soloist, Anastasia Meskova & Vitaly Biktimirov — from Soloists to the First Soloists. Kristina Karasyova, Yulia Lunkina, Karim Abdullin, Igor Tsvirko became Soloists.

Mr Iksanov, the Bolshoi Theatre Director General, announced the appointment of Galina Stepanenko, the former ballerina of the company, as Interim Bolshoi Ballet Director.
